In other words, frequenting the dark recesses of this hormonally overactive alley does not necessarily mean that you’re there to cruise. Conveniently located behind the Gold Cost Bar-a local watering hole with innumerable nicknames like “The Old Coast,” “The Troll Coast” and “The Mold Coast” due primarily to its aging clientele-Vaseline Alley is one of those slyly cruisy spots that offers a degree of denial plausibility. But the truth is this infamous alley just off Santa Monica Blvd is still such a popular place to hook up that it has both its own Foursquare designation and Facebook page. Here, you better come correct or be prepared for a stare down with scathing judgment.

Bottom line: This ain’t your roll out of bed and get a cup of joe Starbucks. However this is also the all-important leg that can create the perfect opening to chat with the hottie in line next to you or exchange furtive glances with the Clark Kent type in the glasses across the room who just happens to have an open seat with your name on it right next to him. The final leg of the runway runs from the entrance to the register, which can seem like an eternity on a busy day, especially given all the prying eyes peeking up over steaming non-fat soy lattes to rate every single patron who dares to take a turn through the store. The store’s always-packed outdoor tables along Santa Monica Blvd and Westmount Dr represent the first leg of the runway, where well-coiffed patrons (many fresh from the gym) are evaluated on presentation and form… and occasionally rewarded with nods or smiles of approval. Better known as “Gaybucks” to locals, this Starbucks location is as much a catwalk as it is a coffee house. If you want to have sex - do it at home.Coffee? Tea? Or the hunk in the white tee? At this popular West Hollywood outpost, all of the above are on the menu. Not all gay men are like that - in fact, I don't know a single one, but as it always is, there's a little group ruining it for every one. This article, to me, exemplifies exactly why people have stereotypical images of gay men, an image which, unfortunately, is pretty much spot on sometimes. I think police should pursue them, just as they would pursue a straight couple having sex in a public place. I'm totally confused about this trait that seems to be attached to gay men - what is it with having sex with strangers in a public place? I really, really would like an explanation. Personally, I can't for the life of me imagine having sex outside in a park. Is it just me who thinks this is almost unbelievable? Call me a prude, but I don't think sex of any kind should be permitted outside, let alone in a park where families take their children. It then goes on to say that gay bashing is on the rise, and that in the past police have pursued gay men having sex in the park, but now, they are there to protect and help them. This caused outrage, and in 2005, the openly gay politician, Klaus Bondam said the bushes should be replanted so that gay men could have sex in the park again without being disturbed, but this never happened.

"But in reality the purpose was to restrain the homosexual activities." In 2000, the mayor responsible for public parks at that time (the county or district of Copenhagen has 6 'mayors' each responsible for certain duties, such as culture, environment and so forth, and one Lord Mayor - currently Ritt Bjerregård), decided to clear some of the bushes, and replace them with grass, offically (as it says in the article) to give families with young children better possibilities to play. The article sums up how the park has been a spot for indecent behaviour (in apostrophes in the article, although I'm not sure why), as far back as 1856. I picked up Out & About, a gay magazine, and was flipping through it when I came across this article (page 72) about how Ørstedsparken has been a main cruising spot for gay men for over 100 years, but not without resistance.

It recently came back to my attention during the Outgames and gay pride here in Copenhagen. A little post about something that I've often thought about, and just don't understand.
